According to local police and eyewitnesses, the high-speed, wooden roller coaster known as El Toro Roller lurched forward as riders were offloading at about 7:00 p.m.
Some victims received treatment on the scene while at least six were transported by paramedics to Centra State Medical Center in Freehold.

Amusement Park Injuries in Mississippi

More than 300 million people visit amusement parks every year, where the probability of being injured is about one in 9 million. Although this makes it extremely likely you can enjoy your day injury-free, the potential for significant and even fatal injuries is still present.
When someone is injured at an amusement park, they might be eligible to collect compensation for their damages via a personal injury lawsuit. In order for the venue to be held responsible, victims must prove the park was negligent and caused or failed to correct the hazardous condition that caused the injury.
Some common negligence issues found at amusement parks include:
- Malfunctioning or defective rides
- Improper ride maintenance
- Faulty safety restraints/Safety restraint failure
- Dangerous or restricted areas that are ungated or unlocked
- Insufficient warning signs around restricted areas
- Insufficient ride warnings, like those that indicate people with heart problems should not embark
- Poorly trained ride operators
- Intoxicated ride operators
- Slippery surfaces with no warning signs
- Poorly maintained grounds and buildings
If the actions of a park employee caused your injuries, the park will typically be held liable. Amusement parks are typically responsible for the behavior of their employees, so, for example, if an employee neglected to inspect a safety harness, then the park will be held accountable.
Due to the extensive amount of work involved, determining whether suing for this type of injury is advisable should be decided by a qualified Mississippi premises liability lawyer.
