Vicksburg, MS - Residents Injured When Adjacent Homes Catch Fire on Pierce St

Vicksburg, MS (August 28, 2022) - The Vicksburg Fire Department was dispatched to the scene of a residential fire involving neighboring structures on Thursday, August 25th in Vicksburg.

The fire broke out at about 3:30 p.m. on Pierce Street in the area of Mission 66.

Fire crews were able to quickly extinguish the flames. All residents were able to exit the affected homes safely, although reports show that a few occupants did endure non-critical injuries. Several firefighters also succumbed to extreme fatigue during the operation.

The home where the fire began was heavily damaged. The radiant heat and flames from the source fire also caused damage to the home next door.

The cause of the fire remains undetermined.

Our thoughts are with the injured victim and their family at this time. We hope for their full recovery.

House Fires in Mississippi

Vicksburg, MS - Residents Injured When Adjacent Homes Catch Fire on Pierce St

Every year in Mississippi, thousands of people are badly injured or die in house fires across the state.

Numerous factors can contribute to how serious a house fire is. The most frequent forms of negligence that produce house fires include:

  • Code violations committed by a contractor or subcontractor
  • Fire suppression equipment that does not work properly
  • Low-quality flame-retardant textiles
  • Faulty or absent smoke alarms
  • Outdated or defective wiring

The most common injuries associated with house fires are health problems incited by smoke inhalation, burns of varying degrees, and even death.

Those who live through house fires and their subsequent injuries have to find a way to cope with lengthy hospitalizations and will be unable to go back to work for a substantial amount of time, which will heavily impact every area of their lives.
